20 songs seems like a good length for a music post, right? If I'd been less lazy, I would have gone to hit up some of my really old playlists on my desktop, but sadly, I am lazy, so it's all stuff I've been listening to fairly recently.

mixtape exchange

MIXTAPE EXCHANGE. You all know my ~*~feelings~*~ about putting together music mixes, and you make requests about what you want to see here and hope people will fill them. (I hope someone wants to do one of mine. I don't really expect all three of them to be picked, but it would be nice to get one done.)

So that's what I'm going to be doing in the back half of July, along with packing and starting my thesis research. You should all go request something! It's really cool.

Okay, a sufficient number of you bastards said "maybe" for downloading music and got my hopes up, so I'm making a music post. I HOPE YOU ENJOY IT. Asterisks mean songs I really think everyone should try.

The Mountain Goats - Estate Sale Sign
and high above the water the eagle spots the fish
every martyr in this jungle is gonna get his wish

**The Mountain Goats - Going to Port Washington**
and gently, gently
the constellations aligned
and as we crossed over the Throg's Neck Bridge
I had something on my mind

Death Cab for Cutie - You Are a Tourist
Because when you find yourself the villain in the story you have written, it's plain to see that sometimes the best intentions are in need of redemptions.
Would you agree?
If so, please show me.

MGMT - Electric Feel
saw her in the Amazon with the voltage running through her skin
standing there with nothing on, she's gonna teach me how to swim

Two Door Cinema Club - I Can Talk
it's not appropriate, don't think that this is it
now I can talk, no one gets off
(I know how you like to)

**Two Door Cinema Club - What You Know**
it's my sweet beginning
and I can tell just what you want
you don't want to be alone

**Bloc Party - Pioneers**
if it can be broke then it can be fixed
if it can be fused then it can be split
it's all under control
if it can be lost then it can be won
if it can be touched then it can be turned
all you need is time
we promised the world we'd tame it
what were we hoping for?

Arcade Fire - We Used to Wait
I used to write letters, I used to sign my name
I used to sleep at night, before the flashing lights settled deep in my brain

Regina Spektor - Hero
I'm the hero of this story, I don't need to be saved

**Patrick Stump - Explode**
I feel like I'm gonna explode any moment
I'm ready to blow I can't stand it
I get so worried and I get so low
And if I'm never your hero I can never let you down

DJ Dain - Don't Worry, I'm Yours (Jason Mraz vs. Bobby McFerrin vs. Israel Kamakawiwo'ole)
Before the cool done run out I'll be giving it my bestest
And nothing's going to stop me but divine intervention
I reckon it's again my turn to win some or learn some

**DJ Earworm - No One Takes Your Freedom (Scissor Sisters vs. The Beatles vs. Aretha Franklin vs. George Michael) **
She wakes up, she makes up
She takes her time and doesn't feel she has to hurry
She no longer needs you
And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind the tears cried for no one
A love that should have lasted years

Lady Gaga - Highway Unicorn (Road 2 Love)
We can be strong
Follow that unicorn
On the road to love

Lady Gaga - Scheisse
I, I wish that I could dance on a single prayer
I, I wish I could be strong without somebody there
I, I wish that I could dance on a single prayer
I, I wish I could be strong without the Scheiße yeah

**Foster the People - Pumped Up Kicks**
Yeah, he found a six-shooter gun
In his dad's closet hidden in a box of fun things
And I don't even know what
But he's coming for you, yeah, he's coming for you

**Dropship - Invincible**
and I know we are invincible but that doesn't mean that it works all the time
and I know we are invincible but that doesn't mean that we'll always stay this way

Comment and I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can get to know you better.
Update your journal with the answers to the questions.
Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions.

[livejournal.com profile] kittysorceress asked:

1. What was the most difficult fic you've recorded?

The most technically difficult was Monster, because I kept coming up with problems with that one. I had to re-record it three times, the last time after it was pointed out to me that the version I had posted was missing a whole bunch of the middle of the story.

The most difficult in general was History, Repeating Itself simply because of the size of it. I had to record different parts of it in different places, my mother and sisters kept walking in on me, it took me over a month to finish it-- and actually the anniversary of the start of recording is in a few days!

But the thing is, the ones that are the most difficult are usually the most rewarding. I still consider History, Repeating Itself to be the best podfic I've ever recorded, and Monster turned out so well when I finally got it right.

2. What do you think Sherlock's drink of choice would be?

I always imagine he drinks black tea with too much sugar. Unless you mean alcoholic drink, in which case he seems like the kind of guy that would wait for a very good excuse to drink something brightly-colored and fruity.

3. What is your most favourite album of all time?

Transatlanticism by Death Cab for Cutie. Runners-up include From Under the Cork Tree by Fall Out Boy, The Life of the World to Come by the Mountain Goats, and Canon by Ani DiFranco.

4. Where would you go to see the perfect sunset?

I walk down the hill and cross the street when I'm at Wells and I go sit on the dock. I've seen so many gorgeous sunsets either there or from the rocks at the edge of the lake.

5. How do you like to get your daily/weekly/annual exercise?

I like doing yoga, but I'm very bad at staying motivated so I really need to have it as a class to keep doing it regularly. When school starts up again I'll be doing it twice a week. I'm not really very active besides that... I go on walks sometimes, that's about it.

[livejournal.com profile] karaoke_gal gave me C! And once again, I go overboard.

Cute is What We Aim For - The Curse of Curves
I want someone provocative and talkative but it's so hard when you're shallow as a shower

David Bowie - Cat People (Putting Out Fire)
See these eyes so green, I can stare for a thousand years. Just be still with me. You wouldn't believe what I've been through.

The Decemberists - California One/Youth and Beauty Brigade
nothing will stand in our way

Fall Out Boy - (Coffee's for Closers)
I will never believe in anything again

Henry's VIII - Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You
the sight of you leaves me weak, there are no words left to speak

Henry's VIII - Country Club of Wells (this is the Wells acapella group from the 60s, it's really funny)
when junior prom is every other week and movies every night, when we have time for eighteen holes a day, then we'll say you're right

Interpol - C'mere
It's way too late to be this locked inside ourselves. The trouble is that you're in love with someone else. It should be me, oh, it should be me.

James Taylor - Carolina in my Mind
Can't you see the sunshine? Can't you just feel the moonshine?

Jason Mraz - Childlike Wildlife
once an hour I light the flower and burn baby burn

The Mountain Goats - Collapsing Stars
When we hid out behind the risers at the high school, working bitter calculations with a slide rule. The grim particulars of poisoning the swimming pool, the way you looked me in the eye, ready to die. We were becoming what we are, collapsing stars.

Mumford and Sons - Cousins (cover of Vampire Weekend)
you can turn your back on the bitter world

The National - Conversation 16
I was afraid I'd eat your brains 'cause I'm evil

The Postal Service - Clark Gable
I want so badly to believe that there is truth, that love is real, and I want life in every word to the extent that it's absurd

Radiohead - Climbing Up The Walls
I am the key to the lock in your house that keeps your toys in the basement, and if you get too far inside you'll only see my reflection

Regina Spektor - Chelsea Hotel #2 (Leonard Cohen cover)
I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel, you were famous, your heart was a legend. You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.

Sea Wolf - The Cold, the Dark & the Silence
Please don't fight, don't fight with me and fold your arms like it's the end. Can you smell the sweetness of the soil and snow in the wind?

The Shins - Caring is Creepy
It's a luscious mix of words and tricks that let us bet when you know we should fold

Vampire Weekend - Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa
Is your bed made? Is your sweater on? Do you want to fuck like you know I do?

The Weakerthans - Confessions of a Futon Revolutionist
We'll talk the night away. You call in sick, I'll quit the word-games that I play. I swear I way more than half believe it when I say that somewhere love and justice shine. Cynicism falls asleep. Tyranny talks to itself. Sappy slogans all come true. We forget to feed our fear.

Willie Nelson - Cowboys are Frequently (Secretly Fond of Each Other)
Cowboys are frequently secretly fond of each other. What did you think those saddles and boots was about? There's many a cowboy who don't understand the way that he feels towards his brother, inside every cowboy there's a lady who'd love to slip out.

[livejournal.com profile] boombangbing gave me A! And because I take everything to extremes, I'm going to post 17 songs instead of 5. :D

Alexei Murdoch - All My Days
now even breathing feels all right

Ani DiFranco - As Is
I've got no illusions about you, and guess what? I never did

Barenaked Ladies - Am I the Only One?
and who, who do you think I am? and who, who do you think I'll be without you?

Billy Joel - And So It Goes
and this is why my eyes are closed, it's just as well for all I've seen

Blink-182 - Apple Shampoo
and I'll teach myself to live with a walk-on part of a background shot from a movie I'm not in

Danny Elfman - After Midnight (from the Chicago soundtrack)
(instrumental)

David Bowie - Always Crashing in the Same Car
every chance that I take, I take it on the road

The Decemberists - Angel, Won't You Call Me?
could I be the only, though I am a lost cause, angel won't you call me?

Fall Out Boy - America's Suitehearts
why won't the world revolve around me? build my dreams, trees grow all over the streets

The Flaming Lips - Are You a Hypnotist?
I had forgiven you for tricking me again, but I have been tricked again into forgiving you

Goo Goo Dolls - Acoustic #3
the least they ever gave you was the most you ever knew

Michael Giacchino - Anyone Can Cook (from the Ratatouille soundtrack)
(instrumental)

The Mountain Goats - Autoclave
I am this great unstable mass of blood and foam and no emotion that's worth having could call my heart its home

Patrick Wolf - Accident & Emergency
give me the worst and then again, I'm feeling braver than I've ever been

Regina Spektor - Another Town
in another town the light fills my room, in another town they're painting my moon

TV on the Radio - Ambulance
oh I will be your accident if you will be my ambulance, I will be your screech and crash if you will be my crutch and cast

Vampire Weekend - A-Punk
look outside at the raincoats coming, say "oh"

The Mountain Goats, Castaways, Ithaca, NY

Here are the videos from the concert I went to on April 2nd! They turned out really well. The video is really steady and the sound is pretty good on all of them. I'm mildly amazed my own singing along didn't get recorded, but also pleased about that because you can hear John really clearly. Stars on the ones I think turned out best!

This is the mix I'm going to submit to the dining hall when I get back to campus. I advise listening to them in order, but you can do whatever you want really, I just think they flow pretty well the way I arranged them. I wanted to fit a couple of other songs on, but I couldn't make them work with the sound I was going for. I'll save them for my next dining hall playlist...

.zip file

01. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Zero

02. Patrick Stump - Spotlight (Oh Nostalgia)

03. Brandon Flowers - Crossfire

04. Metric - Gimme Sympathy

05. Florence and the Machine - Hardest of Hearts

06. Neon Trees - Animal

07. Arcade Fire - Keep the Car Running

08. Foster the People - Pumped Up Kicks

femmealunettes: (MOVIE SIGN)
I have been super into The National lately, and I just uploaded two of their albums for [livejournal.com profile] igrab, so I thought I'd share with the rest of you as well.

Boxer and High Violet

My favorite songs are Brainy (I fucking ADORE Brainy, actually, it's my new favorite song), Start A War, Conversation 16, Bloodbuzz Ohio, and England.

Tonight I went to see Red with my mom, and we both really liked it. My crush on Bruce Willis is no secret, and Mary Louise Parker is just adorable, and Morgan Freeman is a badass in everything ever. There were plenty of explosions, and I do love a good explosion.

I am unexpectedly exhausted. Tomorrow I will start with the recording of my big Podbang story, and if I do it right away in the morning I can even edit it and have it uploaded before I go back to campus, which would be nice because I just uploaded 160MB in two minutes, I wouldn't have been able to upload it at all from my dorm room. I also didn't get any writing done today, but I think I know what I want to do next, so that's good.

[livejournal.com profile] beggar_always gave me "W", for Watson. :D

Seeing as I'm severely constrained in my uploading ability by the absolute rubbish that is Apogee ResNet, I'm going to fish about for appropriate songs already on my MediaFire account...

White Blank Page - Mumford and Sons
(The) World Ain't Slowin' Down - Ellis Paul
Waters of March - Jane Monheit (I think, this might be a different singer? I didn't download it to check)
When I'm Sixty-Four - Claudine Longet
Where Is My Mind - Nada Surf

Today I went to classes, wrote about 1000 words, and recorded and edited two podfics. I feel so great being able to do podfics again, seriously, it makes me so happy. I can only link around one of them yet, since one is part of my Podbang challenge, but they both turned out really well. I'm super pleased with the one I can't link yet, actually.

I'm going to write more until I go to sleep, but I'm planning on doing that fairly soon. I have a French test tomorrow and part of the test is going to be writing a story in the past tense, so tomorrow morning I'm going to try coming up with a story and making sure I know all the verbs I'm going to need for it. I hate verbs so much. I hate nouns, too. I'm okay with prepositions though. And articles.

Individual songs for those who prefer those, one big zip file for people who want to listen to the mix as a whole.

Passion Pit - Seaweed Song
nobody knows you the way you know you, but I think I do

Lady Gaga - The Fame
isn't it a shame? we live for the fame

Bell X1 - Flame
I wanna be near you and blink in your light

OK Go - Shooting the Moon
what can he tell them now? sorry I let you down, sorry it wasn't quite true

Regina Spektor - Fidelity
I never loved nobody fully, always one foot on the ground

The Smiths - Ask
if it's not love then it's the bomb, the bomb, the bomb that will bring us together

Florence + the Machine - Hurricane Drunk
I brace myself cause I know it's going to hurt, but I like to think at least things can't get any worse

Silversun Pickups - Sort Of
what's keeping my tongue tied? I see when you roll your eyes

Yoko Kanno - The Egg And You
instrumental

Edith Piaf - Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien
Aujourd'hui, ça commence avec toi

the dining hall playlist
femmealunettes: (music is life.)
day 13| a song to describe the weather or your current mood

I would immediately go to Ani, but "grey" is only the weather, not my mood, and "joyful girl" isn't really cutting it at the moment. So have one she played when I saw her live.

"If you're not getting happier as you get older, then you're fucking up.
If you're not aware that what you put out is what you get back,
that you make the world through the way you act,
you can't harness the awesome power of that fact and it builds up."

This is what I want to be doing now. This is what I think I am doing, finally. So. This song.

artist spotlight

  • Aug. 3rd, 2010 at 8:28 PM
femmealunettes: (music is life.)
I haven't done this in a while... I think the last time I went nuts posting one artist was for Florence and the Machine? Who are totally worth it, but today I've been listening to Mumford and Sons, which... just, I haven't heard this much raw agony in someone's voice since I used to listen to Bright Eyes, it's really incredible. The one that's been stuck in my head since I first heard it two days ago is Little Lion Man, but they're all excellent songs, very highly recommended. It's really excellent folk-rock. Guitars and torment, they're a wonderful combination.

Mumford and Sons - Roll Away Your Stone
Roll away your stone, I’ll roll away mine
Together we can see what we will find
Don’t leave me alone at this time,
For I'm afraid of what I will discover inside

Cause you told me that I would find a hole,
Within the fragile substance of my soul
And I have filled this void with things unreal,
And all the while my character it steals

Darkness is a harsh term don’t you think?
And yet it dominates the things I see

Mumford and Sons - White Blank Page
A white blank page and a swelling rage, rage
You did not think when you sent me to the brink, the brink
You desired my attention but denied my affections, my affections

But tell me now, where was my fault
In loving you with my whole heart
Oh tell me now, where was my fault
In loving you with my whole heart

Lead me to the truth and I will follow you with my whole life

Mumford and Sons - Little Lion Man
tremble for yourself, my man,
you know that you have seen this all before
tremble little lion man,
you'll never settle any of your score
your grace is wasted in your face,
your boldness stands alone among the wreck
learn from your mother or else spend your days biting your own neck

but it was not your fault but mine
and it was your heart on the line
i really fucked it up this time
didn't I, my dear?

Mumford and Sons - Thistle and Weeds
Spare me your judgements and spare me your dreams
Cause recently mine have been tearing my seams
I sit alone in this winter clarity which clouds my mind
Alone in the wind and the rain you left me
It's getting dark darling, too dark to see
And I'm on my knees, and your faith in shreds, it seems

Corrupted by the simple sniff of riches blown
I know you have felt much more love than you've shown
And I'm on my knees and the water creeps to my chest

But plant your hope with good seeds
Don't cover yourself with thistle and weeds
Rain down, rain down on me
Look over your hills and be still
The sky above us shoots to kill
Rain down, rain down on me
femmealunettes: (music is life.)
Okay, fuck it, I'm still awake, here's that music two of you wanted.

Silversun Pickups - Sort Of
Reach
Keep reaching
For me
Does it make you nervous
When you hear my bones
Animate my body
Without my soul?

What's keeping my tongue tied?
I see when you roll your eyes
I swear any moment you will hear
My spirit explode

Chris Garneu - Raw and Awake
I shudder and shake
The memory is raw,
it's awake.
And even though I go around
in circles all over town,
it drags me down.

You're right.
You're so right.
I torture myself in the night.
I know you love me, but be smart.
Offer solutions instead of your heart.

Steel Train - You and I Undercover
All I want is a soldier
Hand in hand in you
We are young, growing older
I can't sleep tonight
Can't sleep tonight

You've read nonstop
Kissed on mountaintops
Do you remember those days?
So if you're gonna leave,
Cut the cord to those you know will love you back

Spoon - My Mathematical Mind
I want to change your mind
said I want to set it right this time
I'm looking through you
you know who you are

and planning for the apocalypse is
not considered cool
I don't suggest it myself

Alix Olson - Checking My Pulse
And you are the buried penny at the bottom of the pool,
so I guess, I guess that makes me the fool diving deep for you.
I’ll stick you in my pocket, all shiny, all precious, and all... not mine.
A hidden, forbidden treasure; baby, you're the worst kind.
And underneath the surface, all things loom larger,
so I’m searching for your edges to fish you up, ship you up out of the water.
And you are that sweet wish that she’s thrown;
I would have caught you in the air, girl, had I known.

The Hoosiers - Cops and Robbers
If we catch a criminal
When we catch a criminal
There's nothing we can do
But play cops and robbers
Cops and robbers

Catch a revolution
Now you're waging war again
Marching on the spot when you should have made amends
Cause you say you fight for us
Cross your heart and hope to die
You're the bully in the playground and we'll hang you out to dry

VAST - Touched
I looked into your eyes and saw
a world that does not exist
I looked into your eyes and saw
a world I wish I was in
I'll never find someone quite as touched as you
I'll never love someone quite the way
that I loved you

Kristin Hersh - Your Ghost
Let him walk down your hallway
it's not this quiet
slide down your receiver
sprint across the wire
follow my number
slide into my hand.

It's the blaze across my nightgown
it's the phone's ring.

I think last night
you were driving circles around me.

Lenka - Trouble is a Friend
Trouble is a friend but trouble is a foe
And no matter what I feed him he always seems to grow
He sees what I see and he knows what I know
So don't forget as you ease on down the road

He's there in the dark, he's there in my heart
He waits in the wings, he's gotta play a part
Trouble is a friend, yeah trouble is a friend of mine

Gomez - How We Operate
A little joy
A little sorrow
And a little pride so we won't have to borrow
Wherever you lead, I'll follow

Turn me inside out and upside down
And try to see things my way
Turn a new page, tear the old one out
And I'll try to see things your way

Please come here
Please come on over
There is no line that you can't step right over
Without you well I'm left hollow
So can we decide to try a little joy tomorrow
'Cos baby tonight I'll follow

you don't know what you got till it's gone

Joni Mitchell - Big Yellow Taxi

She rocks it out harder than John Meyer even wishes he could.

...so yeah, I've been listening to that this afternoon while playing Farmville.

Anybody want more music? I could be convinced to make a music post tonight if there's any interest in such a thing.

Money Honey - Lady Gaga

Monster Hospital - Metric

Now, off to watch Glee.

I just uploaded this for [livejournal.com profile] calluna and EVERYONE who doesn't have it needs to download it, because it is honestly one of the more perfect albums ever recorded. James Taylor - Greatest Hits

I got a coffee milkshake and a package of Twizzler pull and peels, and I have just finished transferring the last of my music over to Gabriel. There is so much that I want to put on Chuck now but I have to be at least a little bit selective or I'm going to take up all the space with music.

I could really use a backrub right now, but I will have to be content with the milkshake instead.

It's supposed to hit 86 degrees tomorrow, and 88 on Saturday. I foresee a weekend spent mostly in the basement. Good, I can watch all these movies I have piled up. Tomorrow's playlist: Two Girls and a Guy, 500 Days of Summer, and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. If I still feel like watching more movies after that, Sunshine and/or Unbreakable.

Noooooow, I have some beta-reading to do for [livejournal.com profile] moorishflower. \o/
femmealunettes: (music is life.)
Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] sidonay:

post a screenshot of your current playlists
people comment with a playlist
you upload two songs from the playlist to give them an idea what’s on it (determine how you want)
in addition, if you want to ask me what the playlist you ask for is for, go ahead

Two screenshots, actually, one from Arthur and one from Chuck. I'm going to be switching between them all day long so I might as well do it up from both of them... especially since most of them are still on Arthur.

long list of playlists is looooooong )

I'm trying to get iTunes to let me rebuild my library. I think it is asinine to have a "back up to disc" option and not a "back up to drive" option. Do you know how many DVDs it would take to back up my entire library? ....a fucking lot of them, more than I have at hand, that's for sure. People use external drives now, functions should be made to reflect that fact.
