Who's got two thumbs and is finished with her Christmas cards?

Aw hell yeah. All I have left are the people I'm putting together packages for. Anyone who's just a card (or a card with something slipped in) is taken care of. I am so far ahead of the game it's like I'm not even playing it. xD

It is really raining and fiercely windy out. Lovely blustery night. ♥ I'm not looking forward to the first snowfall, that's for sure. I'll take the rain as long as it lasts.

cards, part 2

Okay, I have exhausted my first box of holiday cards and tonight I plan to acquire another. So, once again:

Who wants a card?

If you got my first post, your card will be coming, don't worry. This is for people who missed that one. I'm totally willing to mail internationally, so don't let that stop you if you'd like one! If you have a wishlist, leave me a link to that with your address so I can pop something special in your card. :D

Comments are screened, of course.

My hands are freezing! It's getting to the point where I'm considering wearing fingertipless gloves while I'm on the computer because, gah, chilly.

I took my plant ID test after botany lecture today and he pretty much told me I nailed it, even though I couldn't remember the scientific names of most of the trees. I got all the common names, and almost all the extra credit trees, so I'm not worried about it. My mother came in to talk to the class about her valiant battles against the invasive purple loosestrife, and she told me that Dr. Aikman told her that I was his best student. *flutter* Somehow, I am at the top of my science classes. Forensics lab in 15 minutes, I'm not sure what the lab is today but they're usually fun.

I should go work out, but it's too damn cold to even consider changing in the locker room. I would freeze bits of me off. I missed the past two days on Wii Fit, I have to get my act together. Stupid being depressed, it messes everything up.

eta: Forensics was canceled. xD

penguins aren't holiday-specific, right?

I am getting a head start on this shit so maybe I'll actually get it done for real this year.

I'm going to buy a box today before the movie, so I will start filling them out when I get home.

If you have a particular holiday preference, let me know when you give me your address. Comments are screened. Have at it!

Hello, my lovelies! I trust you all had a weekend, whether spectacular or average.

Personally, my weekend was made of too much good weather, not enough books, and possibly just a little bit too much family. But the perfect amount of fireworks!

We (meaning my father, both my sisters, and my cousin Kristen) spent all day on the Esplanade in Boston, about 1/2 mile from the Hatch Shell where all the ~entertainment~ was going on. We got there at 11 am, and the festivities started... at 8:30. The fireworks weren't until 10:30. I finished the (one) book I brought, thinking I was going to be doing other things, by 1pm. Then I laid around on a blanket, pretty much, for the next 9 hours. My uncle Mike, his friend Al, and my cousin Mikey came around 3 to join us. Mike's other son Jason came with his fiancee around 8.

Neil Diamond... I have one thing to say: it is TERRIFYING being in the middle of 3/4 of a million people all singing "SWEET CAROLINE, BA BA BA" o.o Also, after he played it once for the ~live TV extravaganza~ he played it again. Right after the first time. To the same response, or maybe even more enthusiastic. o.o

The fireworks were ASTOUNDING. I saw so many brand-new kinds, I basically had my head craned back the entire time with my mouth gaping open. Part of a firework casing hit Jason in the head. xD It was cool, in the temperature sense, thank goodness. Between the wind and how HUGE some of the fireworks were, people along where we were on the Esplanade were getting ashed on, it was crazy.

I have never seen fireworks spell out a word before, that I can recall, but I definitely saw "RED SOX" in the sky this time. :O

And. Oh man, huge brilliant purple and blue ones that rained down silver. Swirly white ones that exploded into bright balls and then twinkled down, I have never seen a three-stage firework before then! I just. I totally loved them so much. From where we were we couldn't see the orchestra or anything, but we got the best view possible of the fireworks. I have a few pictures that are decent. They'll be up... probably tomorrow because my SD card reader is dead.

We didn't get back to New Bedford until 1:30, and it was shortly before then that I realized I had THE MOST AWKWARD sunburn ever. Primary concentrations: My calves, especially the backs of my knees (motherfucking OW), the top half of my right arm and most of that shoulder, just a bit of my left arm, and a really small bit of the back of my neck. D: And I put on sunscreen too! Suck. It hurts like a bitch but it'll fade.

Today we basically said goodbye to my Vovoa and left.... unfortnately, we took Mikey with us. He's 8. Keep in mind the composition of my house: 45 year old Mom and Dad, 23 year old (for another two weeks) me, 17 year old Julia, 16 year old Rachael. Plus two old dogs and two moody cats.

I'm already sick of him. >.> We'll see how long it takes for everyone else to share this opinion.

Now, I may or may not be able to catch up on my flist (y'all post a lot) so if there's anything important I should know happened to you, tell me! ♥

Happy St. Patrick's Day indeed.

Last night: pretty much awesome interspersed with bouts of complete insanity. The police were involved at one point. A lecherous, possibly pedophilic French Canadian hitting on my little sister, also involved. Both of them were summarily ejected. xD

A whole bunch of people threw up last night, but I just fell over a lot. No puking for me. (Couple few shots of whiskey, couple blunts, no puke.) In the end I got a little bit of cuddles in with Johnny K, the friday night mystery man who I haven't seen for a few weeks. Sharing a futon = very little sleep, very little blankets, very little of anything except warmth and snores, really.

I feel good today, though. A few adventures, a bit of oot-and-aboot, but mostly just relaxing in the apartment with video games and pizza and Sunday afternoon tv.

Is it bad that reading Cosmo gives me ideas? I think so.

I kind of want to dig out my headphones and just chill with some music for like half an hour. Antisocial of me, but sometimes I just have to close off and think. Or not think, if that's what I need. I'm not sure which one it is right now.

Santa baby...

I meant to before, but hey. xD Now is when I got to it.

Step One
Make a post (public, friends locked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Nine/Jack icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two
Surf around your friends list (or friends friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part: If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf—to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not—it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

all I want for Christmas.. this year. )

That is all.

Pumpkin pie for breakfast!

New meme, stolen from [ profile] furryhatsrock:

Fun Christmas game! You might notice the Christmas tree on my profile. Dear friends' list, please give me presents to put under it. Draw, use pictures, whatever - give me pictures of presents, about 100x100 pixels. Wrap your presents to me or not - this is your chance to give me something completely insane for Christmas! :D It's a LiveJournal Christmas tree. (See my example.)

So do it. Please. Because it'll be fun.

:D? Come on, it's awesome!

And in the end, despite my ambivalence toward the holiday season, I had a very good Thanksgiving (if an incredibly lazy one). I experienced excellent examples of why all of the things I'm grateful for are on that list.

I was also made a very strange, very uncomfortable proposition from someone I maybe trust more than I should. And I'm... sort of worried about it. That dream I had last night has me pretty freaked out about things.

But still, it was a good night. And I love my friends so much, and my parents are so good to me and I don't even recognize that so much of the time. (so so so so so I LOVE that word.) Everything seems good right now. I'm doing okay.

And I have pie. ♥

And happy birthday, [ profile] diamondshadow!

Thanksgiving, 21st iteration

Things I am thankful for:

1. My mother, who is always good for hugs and for being awesome. She does everything, and I only wish I could be half as helpful to her as she is to me. She's so easy to talk to, most of the time, and I'm glad that I've gotten closer to her as I've grown up.

2. My father, who is scary and hard to talk to most of the time, but then does things like teases my friends for being scared by growling and making bear claws at them, and sings along to Panic! at the Disco in the car. He's helpful and cool in completely different ways than my mother.

3. My sisters, who although I constantly complain about them, are sometimes pretty cool people. Julia's becoming a pretty cool person when she's not having manic fits, and Rachael... is smarter than I give her credit for, honestly.

4. My brother, who's the coolest person I'm related to. He's more self-reliant than I am, more capable of acting like an adult, even though he's younger, and I know he's done things to help me out that I don't even know about.

5. My friends, who shouldn't be offended by being number five because the numbers aren't a matter of importance but organization. Because my friends are probably the most important thing ever. You guys keep me together when I think I'm falling apart. All the crazy shit I pull, I know that either someone's at my side being just as crazy, or you're standing by to pull my ass out of the fire. And no matter how down on myself I get, no matter how dark shit can seem, you're all there with flashlights and reassurance when I need them most. I love all of you guys.

6. Tee Vee. It might seem shallow, but goddamn if I'm not grateful for Supernatural and Criminal Minds and Heroes and Tochwood and Studio 60 and Jericho and House and Veronica Mars and Six Feet Under and everything that gives me something to lose myself in for a little while and connect with other people over.

7. Music. Because I always have music, and sometimes it's all that keeps me from killing someone. xD Also in this category: I am grateful for Pete Wentz, Patrick Stump, William Beckett, Brendon Urie, Ryan Ross, Travis McCoy....

8. Sunsets. Because they're beautiful, and they're not even seasonal, you can have a beautiful sunset any night. Also, the stars, especially on clear nights when I can see a million of them, the moon, especially when it's full, rainy days when I feel lazy and happy to watch the rain fall, and sunny days when I'm so full of sunlight myself it just comes out in smiles.

9. The internets. Need I say more?

10. The simple pleasures in life. Warm laundry. Hot chocolate. Hugs. Sleeping late. Getting mail. Being able to write something really good. Doing something nice for someone else. Knowing all the words and singing along with everyone else in the car. Hats. Waking up with a cat on my feet. The look on my dog's face when she's getting tummyscratched. Making someone else lose their shit with laughter. Hope.

So that's what I'm thankful for. I'm not a grinch all the time. xD Happy Thanksgiving, people.

eta: I am also thankful for food. I am so freaking stuffed I can't even finish my apple cider, y'all. And I have yet to have pie. And we have pumpkin AND apple.

The Tyndall called me, but I fear he will have to wait for me to be less like an overstuffed teddy bear and more like a person. xD

I keep making these stand-alone posts because I have the fear that if I put things like this, or memes, in with other things, no one pays attention. xD Like, uh, the stalker meme that only ONE PERSON did. Ahem.

Anyhow... it's about that time, folks! It's cold and nasty out, people are thinking about turkeys, hams, gingerbread and other festive foodthings, and I'm trying to get on my holiday card thing early enough that I don't end up this time next year finding cards I addressed but never wrote out and mailed. :P

So! If you would like a card from me, plz to be leaving your address in a comment (they're screened), and also! for super extra fun-fun times, tell me if you'd like a book, a DVD, or a CD. These aren't going to be awesome new things, but I can promise that I'll pick each one very carefully for you specifically. Also, if you want to drop in which holiday (if any) you celebrate, that gives me an excuse to get specific cards *and* nondenominational ones. xD ETA: Or a hat! If you want a hat you can get a hat.

to recap: address, book/cd/dvd/hat, holiday of choice. Commenzen now!
