my top 20 OTPs/OT3s of all time

In no particular order, taken from TV series, books and movies. All but one of these pairings I've loved for at least a year; some of them I've loved for over a decade. Unsurprisingly, the list is overwhelmingly slash, although there are two bisexual OT3s, one heterosexual couple, and one lesbian couple. There are a few pairings on here that I'm willing to bet very few people are aware that I like, but for the most part this is just an affirmation of pairings I'm already known for appreciating. Still, maybe my doing it will encourage other people to do it! I always enjoy seeing other people's ironclad OTPs.

Star Trek TOS: James Kirk/Spock/Leonard McCoy

My ultimate, die-hard, I-will-always-adore-them pairing. I've shipped this OT3 since 2000, when I first started watching Star Trek. They complement each other so perfectly, but you really need to have all three of them to reach a perfect balance. As much as I like the reboot, you have to go TOS to get the full impact of this.

Star Trek TOS: Pavel Chekov/Hikaru Sulu

Not as ironclad a pairing as Kirk/Spock/McCoy, but I've been shipping these two since 2000 too. I ship them just as hard in the reboot, though.

Harry Potter: Harry Potter/Ron Weasley/Hermione Granger

Another trio where you really need all three of them to balance each other out. Plus, I really love best-friend pairings, and these three are some of the best friends you'll find in literature.

Harry Potter: Remus Lupin/Sirius Black

Prisoner of Azkaban is still my favorite HP novel, and that's mostly because I love Remus so much. I was actually just talking to someone on Facebook yesterday about how I was disappointed when Remus/Tonks became canon because I honestly read Remus as gay from the very start. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a good picture of the two of them together.

Granada/BBC/Canon: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson

I haven't met an incarnation of Holmes and Watson that I haven't liked, but Jeremy Brett will always be the quintessential Holmes to me. BBC Sherlock/John is far and away my most saved pairing on Delicious.

Doctor Who: Eleventh Doctor/Amy Pond/Rory Williams

This is my most recent addition to this list, but I think my love for the three of them will be abiding. Amy has definitely knocked Rose out of my "Favorite Companion" position, and Rory is so dear, and how can you not adore Eleven? It's just a perfect storm of adorability and attractiveness.

Torchwood: Jack Harkness/Ianto Jones

Is there anything better than having your OTP actually be canon? I just love the interaction between them so much.

Jeeves and Wooster: Reginald Jeeves/Bertie Wooster

If you don't think Wodehouse is brilliant, then your opinion is clearly flawed, because Bertie Wooster is one of the most hilarious characters ever to be written... and you figure Jeeves has to love him or he wouldn't put up with Bertie's constant foolishness with the good grace he does.

Revolutionary Girl Utena: Utena Tenjou/Anthy Himemiya

The only lesbians AND the only animated pairing to make the list! (I was considering other animated pairings but honestly I'm too new to the fandoms to consider them favorites of all time yet.) Utena is such a fantastic prince, and she clearly loves Anthy more and better than anyone else who gained power over the Rose Bride.

Supernatural: Dean Winchester/Castiel

I haven't seen any of season six yet, but man, Castiel is entirely the reason I came back to Supernatural after falling away from it for a couple of years. And the way he interacts with Dean is just priceless. A boy and his angel!

Heroes: Sylar/Mohinder Suresh

By and far the least healthy relationship on this list, and yet it's the one which inspired me the most. I wrote a lot of Mylar fic back in the day, and I met a lot of wonderful people because of it. Just... the beginning of their relationship had so much promise, and then the show failed to do anything with it. (Hence tens of thousands of words of fanfiction. xD)

Stargate Atlantis: John Sheppard/Rodney McKay

This was my absolute OTP before I got into Heroes. Rodney is so prickly and John is so not, and yet the energy between them is so perfect.

The Big Bang Theory: Rajesh Koothrappali/Howard Wolowitz

I have already mentioned my love for best friend pairings, right? And the show practically tells you to ship them! They're in an ersatz homosexual marriage! The only thing they're missing is sex, seriously. The episode where Howard woos Raj might be my favorite.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Arthur Dent/Ford Prefect

My longest-standing ship. I first read the Hitchhiker's Guide when I was twelve and didn't even know what slash was, but the next time I re-read it I had figured it out, and this pairing caught my imagination. Arthur Dent is my number one favorite fictional character of all time, and the fact that Martin Freeman played him in the movie only makes me love him more.

Hot Fuzz: Nicholas Angel/Danny Butterman (or any Simon Pegg/Nick Frost pairing honestly)

Seriously, put those two together doing anything and I'll watch it. They're so fucking hilarious, and you can see how much they adore each other shining through every performance.

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead: Rosencrantz/Guildenstern

I really need to rewatch this movie soon. Rosencrantz is beyond adorable, and I appreciate how Guildenstern overthinks things.

The Royal Tenenbaums: Margot Tenenbaum/Richie Tenenbaum

Shh, it's not incest really, they're adopted. And seriously, watch the movie, their love makes me love them even more.

Reservoir Dogs: Mr. White/Mr. Orange (every image I can find from the movie is absolutely drenched in blood, so here, have Tim Roth and Harvey Keitel instead.)

I maintain that Reservoir Dogs is a love story. Yeah, shut up, I know it's a Tarentino film and everybody dies, it's still a love story.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang: Harry Lockhart/Perry Van Shrike

You had to know RDJ would make it onto this list somehow, right? xD It was a close call between this movie and Iron Man, but I like Harry/Perry a little bit more than Tony/Pepper. The levels of snark are astronomical, and I think that's hot.

Fight Club: Tyler Durden/The Narrator

Yes, yes, I realize everything that is wrong with this ship, fuck you, I ship it anyways. If you don't believe it in the movie, read the book and I promise you you'll believe it then.

so many amazing ships. MOHINDER/SYLAR THOUGH. ah, the good ol' days where everything was heroes and nothing hurt. I wrote (and read) quite my fair share of fic as well. I wonder if we ever ran into each other ~back in the day.

I've been trying to make my own list of top 20 OTPs but I'm having serious issues trying to come up with pairings. I've still got 7 empty spaces.

You're the one who gave me the idea; I saw you post that you'd been struggling to round out the list and I decided to see whether I could put together one of my own. Thanks!

Mr. White and Mr. Orange made me tear up the second time I watched Reservoir Dogs. (The first time I was young and distracted by Mr. Blond being hot and dancing.) Mr. Pink is still my favourite character, but the scene at the end... *sniffle*

And, oddly, I totally never even considered shipping Tyler Durden and the Narrator. Not even when they had a discussion in the middle of Tyler and Marla having sex. This will take a bit of pondering, I think...

Also, I miss Mylar. I was debating holding a revival ficlet fest on the comm sometime reasonably soon using a Mylar trope prompt table I made up forever ago.

I may have to do this meme later tonight. Maybe only with 10 pairings, though.

This list is made of awesomeness! Arthur/Ford ftw! ♥
