femmealunettes: (dammit Star Trek! I'm a slash fan!)
Yay, a couple of answers for Top Fives!

[livejournal.com profile] moorishflower asked for my Top Five Trope Scenarios. :D I'm going with fanfic tropes, not inherent-in-the-show tropes (although they can and do overlap xD)

5. Stockholm Schnozzing (as a subset of Foe Yay)
I don't know why, but I fucking LOVE Stockholm Syndrome fic. It can go either way, bad guy held captive by good guy or goodie kidnapped by baddie, I just love the shift from "oh my god I hate you, let me go, die in a fire" to civility to friendship/fucking. xD I love it, but I'm not very good at writing it (I've tried. Many times. I'm just too fluff-bound.) so, uh, recs, anyone? :D

4. OT3 (inclusive/related: Power Trio)
I know exactly where my thing for functioning, mutually loving threesomes came from, and it rhymes with Tar Streck. xD It's shown up in a lot of fandoms since then, but seriously, Kirk/Spock/McCoy is the ultimate example of what I love in this trope: the relationships they have with each other are all different, but it's underlaid with the same trust and affection and willingness to do anything, even die (see: The Empath) to keep the others safe. That's the thing Heroes is really lacking for me, that kind of a symbiotic relationship.

3. Mindlink Mates
TELEPATHY. Oh man, this one gets me every time. Mental connections are so great. The intensity of being able to feel what another person is feeling, to know what's on their mind, that's good enough, but the thought of having someone's presence always there, never being alone... some people think it's weird, I think it's incredibly reassuring. And, yeah, hot. Mind sex > phone sex. xD

2. Alternate Universe (inclusive: fandom fusion)
AUs are so awesome when they're done right. Taking extraordinary people and putting them in normal places, or vice versa, changing the situation around, exploring the "what if x had done y instead of z?", these things make me wriggle with happiness. (but... not high school AUs. I definitely had more than enough of those back when I was an anime fangirl...)

I love post-apocalyptic AUs, historical AUs, meeting another way AUs, fantasy AUs, I will nom them all. One of my favorite SGA AUs is Freedom's Just Another Word For Nothing Left To Lose, in which Rodney is a college professor after John dies... I cried SO FUCKING HARD but it's such an excellent story. My favorite AU in Heroes is not one specific story, it's the Petrelli Twin'verse. I totally called Gabriel and Peter as twins before the "they're brothers" spoiler even dropped. xD

I'm more wary of crossovers than I am of fusions, but those can fit here, and there are some ASTOUNDING ones out there. ([livejournal.com profile] brighteyed_jill's The Secret's In The Telling is a brilliant Supernatural/Heroes crossover, for example.)

1. ~fuck or die~ (inclusive: aliens made them do it, pon farr, "we'll freeze if we don't cuddle!", sex pollen, etc.)
THIS TROPE. OHMYGOD. On the one hand, it's so cheesy and overdone! On the other hand, the only way something becomes a cliche is because it works for so many people! You can stick it in just about any fandom, use it to throw together just about anyone (but seriously, the ideal uses are to break through that "does he-doesn't he?" barrier or turn foe-yay into ho-yay), parody it, take it seriously, crack it out, make it dire or hilarious (or both); it's got the potential to be intensely sexy or really, really awkward (or both!), and... well, it's fun! :D

Not one of my faves, but entertainingly connected: read the bottom line in the explanation of Meta Fic. Subreality Cafe? Yeah, I played around there with various muses a lot. (...MST3K muses, mostly, actually. DON'T JUDGE ME.)

[livejournal.com profile] ozfroggirl wanted to know my Top Five Star Trek Fanvids.

(in no particular order, all TOS unless indicated)

5. Intergalactic Trek. Humor, set to the Beastie Boys' "Intergalactic". HILARIOUS.

4. A Bones Tribute Sing-A-Long. Humor, set to "Dr. McCoy" by S.P.O.C.K. HE'S A DOCTOR, NOT A YOUTUBE VIDEO

3. Dante's Prayer. Slash, Kirk/Spock, set to the Loreena McKennit song of the same name. Post ST:III. May bring a tear. Maybe I'm just a sap.

2. Steady As She Goes. Gen/humor, set to the Raconteurs song of the same name. I don't know why I love the choppy editing but it really works, and I can't watch this without laughing. :D

1. Closer, the gold standard of TOS slash vids. Kirk/Spock, implied violence and rape, but seriously, this vid tells a pretty complete story in and of itself, based on the question "what would have happened if they didn't make it to Vulcan fast enough in Amok Time?" (Someone made a complementary version based on XI and the question "what'll happen now that there is no Vulcan?")

...and if anyone knows of some good Spock/McCoy vids, hook a sister up. >.>

Anyone else? C'mon, I love doing these! :D
