Interview meme, round 2: taliatoennien style!

(1) Describe your perfect fanfic -- something you haven't found yet, but you'd know if you saw it?

Oh man. Uh, this is actually wildly different depending on what fandom we're talking about, except I know for sure that none of my perfect stories have been written because I HAVE LOOKED, BELIEVE YOU ME. Obsessively. But they're kind of... niche? Because polyamory isn't easy to find in most fandoms, and a lot of my ideal stories involve threesomes-- not necessarily sexual threesomes, but three people in a mutually loving and appreciative relationship, and if it's got sex then hey, bonus! Because we all know how I love my pr0ns. xD But not all of them, okay, just... most of them. I can't help it, I'm completely fascinated by menage a trois situations, have been since I was... like fourteen. Possibly younger.

But anyways... my ideal fic could be either AU or canon-compliant, because I'm a total sucker for a well-written AU (AU is my third-most-saved category on Delicious, only after smut and humor). It would preferably be funny, or at least have evidence of a sense of humor if not being outright laugh-inducing, because I prefer things that make me smile. It could possibly be hurt/comfort, but I can't abide angst without a hopeful/happy resolution. It would have a plot to it, because honest, I don't only read porn, it just seems that way most of the time, and for most of my fandoms that plot would probably be a case/caper/situation requiring team resolution. The specifics are really dependent on fandom-- what I want to see for Venture Brothers wouldn't work at all for Sherlock, what I want for Sherlock would be horrifically inappropriate for Doctor Who-- but that's the general shape of it.

I'm pretty certain that I'm never going to get any of my perfect stories unless I win a really good writer in a charity auction, and I have no money for charity auctions, so that's not going to happen any time soon. Unless someone decides to write me something for a birthday present... my birthday is in one month and fifteen days.... >.>

(2) What's the most interesting thing you learned at school last year? Why? (Can be class-related, but doesn't have to be.)

I think the most interesting thing was toward the end of Science and Religion, when we stopped talking about religion and started talking about the philosophy of mind and (tangentially but very much related to that) the existence of a soul. It really shook up my beliefs to try and figure out where I fell along the spectrum of beliefs about the nature of mind and whether it's reducible to physical events or if there's some kind of new thing that happens when brain function becomes sufficiently advanced. I'd always believed in the soul but hadn't really considered why; I think that I still believe in the soul now, but I have a better idea of what I believe as far as the mind/body problem (physical self and mental self are not the same thing, how do immaterial things have efficacy on material things? why does thinking "I'm going to type these words" result in my fingers moving over the keyboard?) and the function of the brain as related to the function of the mind goes.

(3) How have your goals for the future changed this year?

They haven't, really. But my goals for the future are never very well-defined. I still intend to become a social worker despite my misgivings about my capacity to do it for very long without burning out. Now I just intend to get my master's degree in Massachusetts instead of New York, because I'm going to be moving with my parents when they go to New Bedford. My intention to run a club on campus got comprehensively shot down (but I've discussed my serious issues with how the voting was handled already) but I can still hold the same position I did last year, unless someone wants to challenge me for secretary, too, in which case I'm just going to hide under my bed and cry because everyone apparently thinks I'm incapable. I'm going to be the best girlfriend I can to Shane until the end of the year, and then we're probably going to break up because I can't cope with a long-distance relationship, so it's not like I'm making long-term plans on the romance front. Basically I'm just hanging on until I graduate from Wells and I'm going to figure out what I do after that in the spring semester when I have people to coach me through finding a grad school.

(4) Are you primarily a dog person, or primarily a cat person? Why?

I am almost entirely a cat person, despite the fact that I have owned dogs my entire life and have only had a cat in the past five or six years. Dogs just require too much attention, they're noisy, they're smelly, I mean, they're fine, I love my dogs, but I love my cat more. Even though Butcher is a jerk. Cats are mostly independent but they can be really loving, purring is a beautiful sound, and I like the way my cat smells. Plus litter boxes > pooper scoopers. Also, I'm more like a cat than I am like a dog.

(5) What's one thing you want to do this summer that you've never done before?

Uh... Finish a blackout on my Kink Bingo card? Make a hammock for my rats? Honestly, most of the things I'm planning on doing are things I've done before. I'm not really big on expanding my horizons right now, which is terribly boring, I'm sure, but I prefer security and routine to uncertainty and newness. I'd like to try some new recipes, but cooking is something I'm pretty good at already; I'd like to make some jewelry, but I've done that a lot in the past; I'd like to catch up on all my shows, but I'm probably not going to do that if I'm honest with myself.

Also, I just realized that White Collar is starting back up in like three days. So instead of catching up on Fringe first, I'm going to try to catch up on White Collar so I can watch it as it airs.

But first: podfic.

I just realized I could finish an entire bingo today if I was determined enough. And not just a bingo, but a bingo that will snag me two achievements.

Somebody tell me I have to discharge my responsibilities before I do fun things...

So far I have finished four podfics today. Given, two of them are under five minutes, but hey they still count, they're over 500 words each. And one of them is a help_japan podfic. I'm probably going to do the other help_japan story tomorrow (that'd be yours, taliatoennien), and... well, I've still got quite a bit of time before I go to bed, I might try to get another one or two in tonight.

And you know what? I podficced my own work for the first time since I started doing podfic two and a half years ago, and I'm going to do another one of my works, and I'm actually okay with that instead of being all weird about it. There's nothing wrong with reading my own stories. I know exactly where the inflection's supposed to go, for one thing. I think A Day Like Today turned out really funny because of how I read it, actually.

So today for Kink Bingo I did prostitution/sex work, scars, and animal play, and I'm probably going to do at least sex toys and possibly also suspension tonight. If I don't do suspension tonight I'll do that tomorrow, and then do plushie kink tomorrow as well, and then I will have a bingo, hooray! And unless someone snakes me in the next 24 hours, I'll have the first text-free achievement! \o/
