So yesterday we went to the nursing home to see Poppy. He did not remember any of us, but he seemed happy to see us. My great-grandfather has always been a singer, and he sang a lot while we were there, love songs and silly little made-up things.

I didn't tear up until we left, and then I talked myself out of crying. Then I took a Xanax, and that was a good idea, because then we drove through Massachusetts and my mother can't read a TomTom and took a wrong turn and we almost got hit by some Masshole and then there was a traffic jam, and if I hadn't had that Xanax in me I would have had a panic attack. So. Better living through chemistry. I'm glad I thought to pack my Xanax in the first place and that I made sure I had some in my purse. But before we made it to MA we stopped on the NH border and I bought alcohol-- a massive bottle of Disaronno amaretto (bigger than my head! literally!) and a pretty nice sized bottle of Jameson whiskey for $50 altogether, very nice.

Today was much less stressful. When I woke up we went to go get my brother's new truck (which is all rusted out in the undercarriage, my dad got fucked on the purchase price) and then went to Deana's in-laws' house, which is beautiful and I love going there, and saw Deana and Liam (who is five months old and adorable), and Tanya, Deana's friend who is practically a family member, and her four-month-old Ruby, who is the happiest baby I have ever seen. Also my Grandma's friend Angie, who is even more like a family member than Tanya. And also my aunt Tammy, her son Joey who is a little older than Rachael, and her adopted son Mikey who I don't even like to consider as related to me because he's such an obnoxious little fuck. Seriously, if there is a reason I never want kids, it's the fear that one of them will turn out like Mikey. I would have to put the kid down if they turned out that annoying. Then Janice came home, Deana's mother-in-law, and I really like her. Also her daughter Sidney, and a person that I'm not entirely sure if she was Sidney's girlfriend or just her friend, but I didn't ask, this is purely based on speculation because of the way they physically interacted, I didn't even overhear them speaking to each other at all.

Anyways. After we left there, we went to see Vovoa, and took a look at the house next to hers. It's a really nice house. I didn't want to like it, but I do. Even if my sisters are going to shove me into the smallest room in the house. Then Uncle Mike brought his son Mikey (yes, I have two cousins named Mikey, yes, they're both irritating as fuck) and we all went out for ice cream, after an escapade in which my mother locked the keys in the van and had to have Mike drive her across town to get the spare set while Dennis tried to break into the car using a wire hanger, and he almost did it, too.

When we left Vovoa's, it was Julia, Rachael, my mother, me, and our cousin Kristen, and we went to Hazelwood Park where the Whaling City Festival was going on. We wandered the vendors' stalls for a while; I got a pretty blue and white dress, two pendants (I can finally make that necklace for Shane, I have a nice enough pendant to form it around) and a keychain clip that looks like my lizard tattoo, and I found a necklace and an anklet on the ground (not near any stalls, I am not a kleptomaniac) and gave the anklet to Julia even though it was pretty and I wanted it. I am a nice sister.

When we left Hazelwood Park, we acquired another cousin, Patricia, and my cousins and sisters went to get pedicures while my mother and I went to a bookstore (and bought a pedicure's worth of books) and had dinner at Olive Garden. And my mother let me order alcohol, and nobody asked to see my license. I had a muscato cocktail, it was delicious.

Now we are back at Amy-Beth's, and my back is killing me because her computer chair is backless, and I should really go to bed except I promised Rachael I would update her iPod for her because she's getting on a plane to North Carolina in the morning. So I will be up for a while yet. And tomorrow we are driving to Providence to drop her off at the airport, and then back to Auburn, which will probably take us about seven hours, so I can sleep in the car. I am very much looking forward to sleeping in my own bed again, though I am not so much looking forward to changing the rat cage as soon as I get home.

I really need a backrub.
