femmealunettes: (me.)
Plz note that I almost died in the shower while thinking this through (I slipped on the tub and almost broke my neck x.x), so hear me out.

I know a lot of you guys are sick of Fall Out Boy. I've been told so. I've had people defriend me because of it.

It's my fandom. Okay? I don't bitch when anyone else talks about their fandoms. I don't say "God, I'm so sick of hearing about the Office" or "if someone posts something about CNN again I'm going to cut a bitch" or "what's the big deal about Battlestar Galactica?" (to name a few, not singling people out, just thinking about the big fandoms on my flist I'm not part of.) I'm not making you listen to them, I'm not saying they're the best music that's ever been made.

I'm saying I like writing goofy fanfic about them, and wibbling over them, and obsessively looking up pictures of them. I make layouts and icons because that's what people do with their fandoms. And I know there's not a single fan on my flist who can say otherwise.

So: if you want to hate, that's your choice. And if you dislike my fandom enough to get rid of me, well, I'll be sad to see you go.

Just take a look in the mirror, mkay? Fandom's about having fun, or it should be. And this fandom makes me happy in ways that other fandoms have consistently failed to do. I wish everyone had something this fun and worry-free to indulge in, without the constant drama that plagues other fandoms.

But, in the words of the immortal H.O.V.A.: "I'm like, fuck critics, you can kiss my whole asshole, if you don't like my lyrics you can press fast forward." Or, you know, something like that? Anyway, it's either talking about Fall Out Boy or Justin Timberlake. If anyone wants me to go on to the Prince of Pop, y'all just let me know.

*pokes* I've had a lot of my school-friends bitch at me for this same reason. I ended up creating a separate friends filter so that they didn't have to hear about me gush about Fall Out Boy. It really has saved a lot of aggravation from both sides on this matter, so I would suggest it to you, too. I haven't had very many complaints from my school friends since I set it up.

Call me lazy or selfish or what-have-you, but I don't like partitioning my life. I have an adult filter for not-quite-legal things, and that's about all the filtering I'm willing to do.

I don't have that many RL people on my list that I need to seperate my fannish life from my offline one; I think that if people are going to gush over their fandoms, they should be willing to deal with others doing the same thing. And that's where all the problem is, anyhow: people who have their own obsessions but aren't willing to put up with just scrolling past mine and keeping their mouths shut or their fingers still. I'd rather be defriended than bitched about.

*breathe* But thank you for the very reasonable suggestion. I'm sorry I'm an unreasonable person. :D

Well then that's your problem, I guess. I think that if people ask you to stop talking about something then you should find a way to avoid talking about it in front of them. It's one thing if they blow up at you because you don't realize that it annoys them. But if you openly know that talking quite a bit about a band annoys someone? You shouldn't do it. It's just rude to them.

I don't really care, but I just hate it when people bring stuff up to me even though I've told them time and time again that I don't want to hear about it. Usually in the way of LJ posts, it isn't that bad because you can scroll past it. Unless of course as with a show or a movie, tons of posts show up on that particular subject. Like with Supernatural for me -.-
[identity profile] mysticshell.livejournal.com wrote:

It's her journal. Why should she have to censor herself in her own journal? if people don't like it they can just scroll past and move on, honestly.

If it was in their journals or in person, repeatedly, then yeah I'd agree, but in her own LJ, people shouldn't have such a problem, right?
[identity profile] elessar.livejournal.com wrote:
Mar. 17th, 2007 08:44 pm (UTC)
I had to do that. You want to explain this to the people who asked me to filter my shit? Then by all means. I'm not saying she should because I'm not one of the people who cares what she posts. I love Fall Out Boy. I love reading posts about them.

I'm just saying. The world's an ugly place and people will always be selfishly annoying about these things, especially on the internet.
[identity profile] mysticshell.livejournal.com wrote:

I know - I hope I didn't come off antagonistic or anything. I'm sorry you had to do that. Then again I made an RP filter on mine because people were sick of hearing about it. I did that because it's a huge part of me now, and I talk about it a lot, so I thought I'd be nice and give them a break. No one asked me to do it, and not one was really bitchy or anything about it. I just though that's be a nice thing. But if I did that for every fandom people didn't like, I'd have more filters than posts. Not saying you did of course, just saying how this could turn out.

And yeah. It is, they are, and it sucks. Which is why Dani should be able to be just as "selfishly annoying" and fangirl over FOB in her own journal. I can't really understand why your or her friends couldn't just scroll past to the stuff they're actually interested in. *shrug*
[identity profile] elessar.livejournal.com wrote:
Mar. 17th, 2007 09:23 pm (UTC)
Yeah my fandom filter makes up fic, RP, and all around general info. There is no way I'm separating them into different filters. They haven't complained yet, so I think I should be okay.

I think the reason why was because they don't have a lot of lj friends so my posts make up a big amount of their f-list :\ Sorry I have a lot of stuff to blog about so sue me >

*poit!* Is that an Inara in your icon? Win!!! XD

And yeah I understand if like... that was all they saw ever, it'd just be easier. I was just saying that one should feel forced to have to do it, yanno?
[identity profile] elessar.livejournal.com wrote:
Mar. 18th, 2007 03:41 am (UTC)
XD Yes, that is Inara.

Yeah. I just wish that it hadn't come across so bad. Their words were "I don't mean to sound like a bitch, but can you PLEASE create a filter for all this fandom stuff?" There were much nicer ways to go around it :\
[identity profile] mysticshell.livejournal.com wrote:
Mar. 18th, 2007 04:49 am (UTC)
Sweet.

Yeah see, now, I'm bitchy enough that'd I'd have been like, "Um. No. My journal. I get to talk about what I want. Especially since you were so damn rude about it." XD
[identity profile] elessar.livejournal.com wrote:
Mar. 18th, 2007 04:52 am (UTC)
I was so close to responding with that but I decided I didn't want them defriending me since LJ is the only way I keep in touch with her :( But now I'm kind of eh about her because she's gotten increasingly more bitchy lately *sigh*
[identity profile] mysticshell.livejournal.com wrote:

My flist is big enough that filtering out anyone who doesn't want to hear about FOB would be a pain in my ass I'm not going to take to avoid bothering a handful of people. Makes me selfish and rude, maybe, but I'm not asking them to filter me out of their fandoms, I just skim past their shit. It's not like I'm bringing FOB up in their journals.

If I was all about persecuting people over their fandoms, it would be hypocritical of me not to filter out people when I talk about mine. But I'm a live-and-let-live, as long as people don't talk shit about me and mine, you know?
[identity profile] elessar.livejournal.com wrote:
Mar. 17th, 2007 09:03 pm (UTC)
And my flist is just as big as yours and I was pushed into filtering out. What like 10 people who I know IRL who didn't want to hear about FOB? It was crazy annoying but I was like "you know what? FINE" So I know how you feel :\ I was really just offering you a suggestion and reminding you that you have an option to avoid this because sadly I was pushed into doing it. These days most of my stuff is mixed with RL and fandom that I rarely filter it anyway. *g*
[identity profile] speccygeekgrrl.livejournal.com wrote:
Mar. 17th, 2007 09:45 pm (UTC)
I'm just too stubborn to be pushed into it, lol. xD I know you were just offering a suggestion, and I'm sorry if I came off as starting a fight, I'm just too fiercely somethingorother to bend under like five people's pressure.

All my shit's all mixed up together too. I'd be making way MORE posts if I had to seperate all my FOB from everything else... and hell, it's not like I post my fic or anything here, if I was shoving, you know, FOB GSF in everyone's faces I'd understand a bit of furor. xD

Ugh, I fail at HTML. Take 2.
*raises hand* I'm one of those people who can't stand the obsessive fangirling over Fallout Boy. I just don't get it. I've defriended one person over it because that was all she ever posted At least all that I saw. We weren't actually friends anyway, so, no big loss to me.

I, however, LOVE 30 Seconds to Mars. I can see you don't. [Hence why I refused to listen to your podcast before]. You have never dissed my 30stm fandom to me - yeah I said diss, so what? XD - so if I have done so for FOB to you in the past? Notice how I haven't lately. I? Scroll past it now. I look for the things on you journal I LIKE to read. Because at least unlike other people? You say other things; you say things I want to read, to comment on; you're my friend.

So count this as a: an apology if I've done so in the past, and b: a promise to just keeping ignoring it in the future. XD Hey, no matter how much people may have in common, there are bound to be things they don't agree on. You'd have to either ignore it, or be prepared for arguments constantly.

Letting it go's just easier. =)

♥ Exactly. I'm an expert in the art of ignoring that which doesn't directly impact me. (or I like to think so, having three siblings etc.)

I won't always read about other people's fandoms (although I can definitely blame my flist for converting me over to several things), but I won't get pissed if they post about them. Even if I don't like 'em, I like the people, and I like their lives. :D I'm glad to know people do understand what I mean about this!

Heeeeey girlface. You are so fucking right. I get sick as hell of hearing about Heroes and Supernatural and a million other things that *everyone* talks about, but it's okay for people to bitch at me for talking about my fandom?

Also I THINK THERE'S AN ALLUSION TO ME IN THESE COMMENTS, OMG. PEOPLE R TALKIN' ABOUT ME DANI. I'M SPESHMUL.

It's not that I don't like FOB.

It's that Pete Wentz reminds me of my brother's dog. And Sonny Moore. I'm not sure why.

He's a gremlin with some strange charm. Everyone* loves him but they don't know why.

But like most creatures I scroll past if I don't want to read it. You don't have to filter for me.

*except for me and my sister

....Pete reminds you of a dog AND Sonny Moore? Scathing in both directions. (Sonny Moore reminds me of a dog on his own.)

I think half his charm is how he markets himself. It's not just a band, it's a whole record label, a clothing line, a devoted official fan club.... Wentz is more of a movement than a person.

I'm in it for Patrick, anyway. xD

I think I am sans a current fandom. I was totally into serial killers for about a month or so there, but that's petered out as it generally does (can't stay on that one for too long- dark trip that is). My next one COULD be 300, but I don't know yet. Typically I get into something- go BATSHIT CRAZY over it for a month or so and abandon it for the next bright and shiny I see. I still cherish all of my past fandoms (haha yes, even Titanic) but the batshit crazy, and thus the total satisfaction of collecting information and objects is gone.

How do yours generally work?

I'm not a fan of FOB or MCR or P!ATD (yet I know all their acronyms...how sad) at all, and a lot of my f-listers are, so naturally there's gonna be a lot of fangirling over them on my friends page. Because of the sheer number of them, I do get kind of annoyed sometimes when I'm looking for a specific post or something and it's all buried amongst the fangirling, but that's my own problem, really. Anyone should be able to post whatever the shit they want and not get censored by people who are too lazy to scroll past the fangirling.
