Dangerous wind chills = screw going out. Tomorrow is my new last day. xD

Today: finishing my [livejournal.com profile] bedfellows story. Almost there.

I got To Serve the Queen in the mail today... one day after Paperbackswap marked it lost in transit. I'm so glad, I love all Diane Duane books and the idea of cat wizards running the Gates at Grand Central is just too much awesome. xD I'm happy I get to read it again.

Rachael's computer got screwed up somehow, so I'm playing long-distance tech support. It's much easier than trying to explain things to my mother.

A few links to warm you up on a cold cold day:

The 2/10/08 demonstration outside Scientology buildings in London. (Or should that be 10/02/08, considering?) I wish I had been there, that's AWESOME. Best part: they rickrolled the Scientologists! WIN. Also, people in nigra suits, afro wigs, and V masks.
"I think they died of sheer culture shock" - the looks on the faces of the scientologists when faced with a crowd in which a lone voice shouts:

"I HEAR TOM CRUISE HATES MUDKIPS!"

(all) "NOOOOOOOOOOO!"

... how do you fight that?

Making Sense of the Great Suicide Debate. Interesting in that the statistics on the likelihood of medications to cause suicidal thoughts are skewed by small research groups and the fact that, hello, depressed people are more likely to try to commit suicide anyway. It's also interesting that there's no suicidal ideation in a quarter of the suicide cases... while a lot of the time, suicidal ideation doesn't lead to the act. (good thing, too.)

Top drunken shamings of all time. And this is why you NEVER fall asleep with shoes on at a party. Wear slip ons, and kick them off! Protect yourself, and do right by your friends. This is a PSA from the anti-shaming coalition.

Realistic-style South Park family portraits. It's hard to find non-animu SP fanart, but this is really well done, and adorable too. Stan's pout! Kyle's curls! There are family members missing, but who cares-- they're great.

The Invitation, by Oriah Mountain Dreamer. [livejournal.com profile] lessthangreat posted this, and it just hit me pretty hard. Go. Read. Think.

And a song:
Panic at the Disco - Nine in the Afternoon (radio edit)

If you haven't seen the music video yet... Google it, I hate embedding video. :P But see it, because it's pretty wild.

I told you I was one of those

Linkeriffic!

THE CAKE IS REAL. and it looks delicious!

Crocheted representations of hyperbolic space. Math + crafts = AWESOME!

SAMURAI CHRIST. The Bible in manga form: great idea, or greatest idea? I can't tell if I think it's hilariously brilliant or hilariously dumb.

I want to move to Nicaragua and catch white lobsters. I can't believe a whole town bases its economy on cocaine just floating to shore. That's wild.

Baby Arctic foxes! N'awwww. I am a sucker for all sorts of foxes. Have you ever seen a fennec fox? Their ears are the size of their head!

The smarter you are, the more likely you are to become an alcoholic. That doesn't surprise me; there are similar findings for depression. It sucks to be smart!

Bad news: no new episodes of Heroes until fall. Does anyone know of shows which are definitely coming back this spring? I haven't heard of any for sure, just ones that aren't...

Ahhh local news! Vermont farmers okayed to grow hemp, even though it's not federally legal yet. Keeping hemp outlawed is stupid anyway, it's such a versatile and beneficial plant. Go, Vermont, go!

Eating an orange in winter is such a nice thing. :D It's like a ball of sunshine. And right now I am downloading I'm Not There, the Bob Dylan biopic, which is going to rock, pun intended. I'm going to have to do more walking this week than I want to do with a big storm coming tomorrow night, but hey, I'll suck it up and maybe find some old tennis rackets somewhere to strap to my feet. I'm brave like that.

I'm also tired like that. Maybe tonight I'll sleep all the way through... optimism, yay.
